Penalties associated with a speeding summons vary depending on how many miles per hour in excess of the posted speed limit it is alleged that you were traveling.
1-14 MPH- will subject you to 2 motor vehicle points on your license, fines up to $200.00 and 2 insurance eligibility points which may result in an increase in your insurance rates.
15-29 mph over- will subject you to 4 motor vehicle points on your license, fines up to $200.00, 4 insurance eligibility points on your license which may result in an increase in your insurance rates and potential loss of license.
30 mph plus- will subject you to 5 motor vehicle points, fines up to $200.00, 5 insurance eligibility points which may result in an increase in your insurance rates and potential loss of license.
The fine amount can be enhanced if the summons indicates that the infraction occurred in a "safe corridor", school zone, construction zone or 65 mph zone.
